Disappointed in our government ... again

I had not been to the post office for a couple of days. My box was jammed with paper, some letters, some junk. What was most interesting about my mail today is that there no less that three fliers from Bev Shipley, my Conservative member of parliament. This is in addition to the two last week.

These flyers had no information in them. They are blatant election ads, paid for by the taxpayers. Printed and distributed by a parliamentary budget that we pay for. The final insult is that there is a bogus ballot on each one, asking you to vote for the leader that you believe in. You can mail it in for free to your MP. Except, of course, nothing is free, so we get hit once again for every single piece of this crap that gets sent back to Ottawa.

This government has no dignity. The Conservatives have no class. On the basis of their actions (and inactions) they simply do not deserve to be running this country. They cannot seem to distinguish between their roles as members of a political party, and public servants whose duty is to Canada and its citizens. They see nothing wrong with this. They see nothing wrong with attack ads. They see nothing wrong with publishing a manual of dirty tricks to subvert the intent of parliamentary committees. They believe in punishing crime, unless the crime is election spending, or influencing votes. Do as I say, not as I do. This is the core of authoritarianism.

Today, Pakistan's dictator/president, Pervez Musharraf stepped down from office. Asif Ali Zardari, the widower of assassinated opposition leader, Benazir Bhutto, said of her death that "democracy is the greatest revenge". Democracy will soon put an end to the farce which we now call a government. Canada's "New" Government. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
